Renewal of course accreditation

Report on renewal of accreditation of two higher education courses of study offered by Worldview Centre for Intercultural Studies

On 14 May 2015 TEQSA decided, under subsection 56(1) of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (the TEQSA Act), to reject applications by Worldview Centre for Intercultural Studies for renewal of accreditation of the following higher education courses of study:

• Associate Degree in Cross-Cultural Ministry
• Bachelor of Cross-Cultural Ministry

On 24 June 2015, TEQSA decided, under section 57A of the TEQSA Act, to extend the accreditation period of the courses until 31 December 2015.

Background to Decision

Worldview Centre for Intercultural Studies submitted an application for renewal of accreditation of two courses of study under Section 55 of the TEQSA Act. Section 56 of the TEQSA Act enables TEQSA to renew a course of study's accreditation for a period not exceeding seven years if TEQSA is satisfied that the provider continues to meet the Threshold Standards.

Main reasons for decision

TEQSA made its decision on 14 May 2015 on the basis that it was not satisfied that the courses continue to meet the Threshold Standards. Specifically, TEQSA was not satisfied that Worldview Centre for Intercultural Studies' courses had:

• course design which is appropriate and meets the Qualification Standards in accordance with requirements of the standards of section 1 of the Provider Course Accreditation Standards;
• assessment which is effective and student learning outcomes are achieved in accordance with the requirements of the standards within section 5 of the Provider Course Accreditation Standards;
• course monitoring, review and updating which are appropriately managed in accordance with the requirements of the standards within section 6 of the Provider Course Accreditation Standards.

TEQSA made its decision on 24 June following discussions with Worldview Centre for Intercultural Studies and the on the basis that:

• the extension of the accreditation of the courses would be in the interests of affected students; and
• Worldview Centre for Intercultural Studies advised that if an extension of the accreditation of the courses was granted it would not apply to TEQSA for renewal of accreditation during the period of the extension or enroll students in the courses.
