Report on application for accreditation of six higher education courses of study by Victorian Institute of Technology Pty Ltd
On 14 January 2022, TEQSA rejected, under section 49 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (TEQSA Act), the applications by Victorian Institute of Technology Pty Ltd (VIT) for accreditation of the following courses
- Graduate Certificate of Data Science
- Graduate Diploma of Data Science
- Master of Data Science
- Graduate Certificate in Health Management
- Graduate Diploma in Health Management
- Master of Health Management
Main reasons for the decision
TEQSA is deemed to have made the decisions under section 49 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (TEQSA Act).
Pursuant to section 49(7) of the TEQSA Act, TEQSA is deemed to have rejected each of the applications because it did not make decisions in respect of them within 9 months of receiving them, as required by section 49(2)(a) of the TEQSA Act.
The decisions to reject the applications for accreditation are reviewable decisions under section 183 of the TEQSA Act and VIT has sought review of the decisions at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). On 13 December 2022, the AAT set aside the decisions and remitted the course accreditation applications to TEQSA, with the parties' consent.
On 31 January 2023, VIT withdrew the course accreditation applications.
