Course accreditation

Report on accreditation of two higher education courses of study offered by ISN Psychology Pty Ltd

On 26 February 2021, a delegate of TEQSA:

  • accredited, under section 49 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (TEQSA Act), the following courses offered by ISN Psychology Pty Ltd, for a period of seven years until 26 February 2028:
    • Master of Psychology (Sport and Exercise)
    • Doctor of Psychology (Sport and Exercise, Clinical).
  • imposed, under section 53 of the TEQSA Act, two conditions on the accreditation of the Master of Psychology (Sport and Exercise) and the Doctor of Psychology (Sport and Exercise, Clinical).

Condition 1: Sports and exercise placements

  1. ISN Psychology must not commence delivery of the following two courses of study:
  • Master of Psychology (Sport and Exercise)
  • Doctor of Psychology (Sport and Exercise, Clinical),

until TEQSA notifies ISN that TEQSA is satisfied that ISN has:

  • Reviewed the formal placement agreements and ensure they align with the Health Vic template; and
  • Arrangements are in place for ISN PsyBA-approved staff to undertake direct supervision of the sport and exercise placements.

Condition 2: Independent review

  1. Immediately following 12 months of delivery, ISN must appoint a suitability qualified independent subject matter expert to review the following two courses of study:
  • Master of Psychology (Sport and Exercise)
  • Doctor of Psychology (Sport and Exercise, Clinical).

The independent review must consider:

  • The appropriateness of the arrangements of the sport and exercise placements in ensuring adequate supervision and achievement of learning outcomes; and
  • The adequacy of academic governance oversight in supporting an appropriate research environment.

Prior to engaging an independent expert reviewer ISN must obtain TEQSA's approval of the reviewer and the scope of the review. ISN must provide TEQSA with:

  • A copy of the review (within seven days of the completion of the review); and
  • A summary of actions (if any) ISN is implementing in response to the review (within two months of the completion of the review)

Main reasons for the decision

TEQSA made these decisions in light of risks that the courses submitted by ISN Psychology Pty Ltd may not meet, or continue to meet, the following provisions of the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2015:

    1. Standards 2.1.1, 3.3.1, 5.4.1, and 5.4.2 of Part A in relation to the quality assurance arrangements of work-integrated learning placements

Application to withdraw conditions

In accordance with section 53 of the TEQSA Act, TEQSA may vary or revoke a condition imposed on the accreditation of a higher education course of study, either on its own initiative, or upon application by the provider for variation or revocation.
